When the ICA first published the list of Chin fatalities on July 6, 2021, 81 Chin people had been killed by the Myanmar Junta since its coup de \u2018tat on February 1. As of today, the death toll has now reached 108. Within the last 2 months, 27 more Chin People were killed, approximately one person every two days<\/p>\n
Among the deaths were 57 civilians including 7 women and 14 children under the age of 18 and 51 from Chin resistance forces. The Tatmadaw disposed the bodies of 7 victims, hiding evidence of their crimes and not allowing the victim\u2019s families to bury their loved ones with dignity and respect, a highly valued cultural and religious tradition of the Chin people.
\nWhen fighting breaks out between the Tatmadaw and Chin resistance forces, the Tatmadaw troops usually raid nearby villages, occupying their houses by force, stealing their belongings and food storage without permission, destroying furniture and houses, and firing weapons and shelling indiscriminately at civilians. Several civilians were killed due to arbitrary arrests, torture, and executions. On August 25, 2021, the Tatmadaw fired artillery at residential neighbourhood in Thantlang town, killing 3 and injured 8 more civilians. The Tatmadaw clearly appear to target the Chin civilians intentionally to create fear among the population.<\/p>\n
The ICA urges the Tatmadaw to immediately cease targeting civilians, their houses, and belongings, and to cease killing innocent people, particularly women and children and to refrain from indiscriminate firing and using heavy artillery against the civilian population. The ICA also calls on the international community to intervene and increase pressure on the Myanmar junta to cease its military operations and human rights violations against the Chin People.<\/p>\n
