{"id":1817,"date":"2021-07-06T17:29:09","date_gmt":"2021-07-06T17:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chinaffairs.org\/?p=1817"},"modified":"2024-05-18T21:44:25","modified_gmt":"2024-05-18T21:44:25","slug":"ica-concerned-over-rising-death-toll-of-the-chin-people-in-myanmar-over-80-chin-people-have-been-killed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chinaffairs.org\/?p=1817","title":{"rendered":"ICA CONCERNED OVER RISING DEATH TOLL OF THE CHIN PEOPLE IN MYANMAR: Over 80 Chin People have been killed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PRESS RELEASE<br \/>\n6 JULY 2021<br \/>\nCHIN STATE, MYANMAR<\/p>\n<p>Since the Military coup that began on 1st of February 2021 in Myanmar, the ruling dictatorship &#8211; the State Administrative Council (SAC) has killed (51) Chin ethnic in Chin State, (2) in Kachin State, (23) in Sagaing Region, (1) in Mandalay, (1) in Yangon and (3) in Magway Region including (5) women and (10) children.<\/p>\n<p>These victims were killed during SAC military operations conducted during peaceful demonstrations opposing the coup while others were killed resisting military operations in their home villages. Some of the victims also died by indiscriminate bombing and air attacks.<\/p>\n<p>The Institute of Chin Affairs (ICA) is gravely concerned about the high numbers of ethnic Chin civilians being killed by SAC forces particularly noting the Chin people are relatively less in population as compared to other ethnic groups in Myanmar.
