At least 17 killed and at least 30 injured in SAC airstrike on a non-military target
On January 7, 2024, at around 10:00 A.M, Myanmar time, at least 17 people were killed and at least 30 were injured when the Military Junta fighter Jets bombed Kanan Village on Kalay-Tamu road near Khampat Town, Tamu District, Sagaing region.
Attacks on schools and Christian Churches that are not military targets
At around 10 A.M on January 7th, the Military Junta dropped 2 bombs on the vicinity of the Kanan village Baptist Church and school without a ground battle, killing 17 civilians, including children, and injuring at least 30, according to a Kanan resident.
Regarding the incident, “They (Military Junta jets) dropped bombs on the school. The building was destroyed, and 2 children who were playing football on the football field near the school died instantly. The second bomb was also very destructive. It hit a Church with worshippers inside (during a worship service). 17 had died, most were children, and the others were also seriously injured” said a resident of Kanan. Are Civilians sacrificing their lives to boost the morale of the Military Junta who are defeated and demoralized from all fronts?
On January 4, 2024, on the 71st day of the 1027 operation, the surrender of more than 4,000 soldiers, including 6 Senior Brigadier Generals, which has never been experienced in the history of Myanmar’s military, caused a huge stir in the military junta community, and reports from military sources that they are losing morale have spread throughout the news media.
On January 7th, 3 days after the surrender, without any battle in Tamu District, Sagaing Division, 17 Civilians were killed and 30 were injured due to the bombing of the Kanan sanpya village near Khampat town, which was obviously just to boost the morale of the military junta, whose morale is declining for no reason.
Military Junta still conflicting between words and actions
On the occasion of Christmas on December 25, 2023, the Chairman of the Military Junta (Min Aung Hlaing) and his wife attended the service of the Saint Michael Catholic Church in Pyinmana, Nay Pyi Taw, and gave a speech on the path of peace, according to the propaganda media of the Military Junta.
Again, in his New Year’s speech on January 1, 2024, he also called for a concerted effort by all stakeholders to ensure that youths can be educated at the age when they should be educated. And he urged everyone to walk towards the new state that everyone hopes for, with compassion and love for each other, regardless of our differences in ethnicity, religion or regional issues.
However, just days after these speeches, their brutality against civilians, including future youth, in an area inhabited by ethnic Chin people who were not related to the military target, is just another proof that the military junta’s words and actions are still inconsistent.
