At least 16 killed by Myanmar junta’s attacks in Chin State within 13 days in October

From October 1, 2024, the military junta carried out airstrikes and artillery shelling in Mindat Town, Chin State, reportedly burning down more than 30 houses. (Zalen, 5 Oct 2024)
On October 4, 2024, starting around 5 a.m., Chinland Council forces, led by the Chin National Front (CNF), launched an attack on the junta’s military bases in Thantlang Town, Chin State. The intense fighting continued until 6 p.m., resulting in casualties on the junta’s side. The junta responded with over 60 bombing runs by Y-12 aircraft and more than 10 strikes by jet fighters.
A representative from CDF-Thantlang said to Yangon Khit Thit News: “The battle in Thantlang has now been ongoing for 76 days. We are conducting the offensive under the name ‘Tilim Operation – 4’ . There hasn’t been a single day of pause in these 70-plus days of fighting. Yesterday, the battle was intense, lasting from around 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., with significant losses on the junta’s side. However, we cannot yet disclose the bases that we captured. The junta bombed over 60 times using Y-12 aircraft and dropped bombs more than 10 times using jet fighters. They also conducted heavy artillery shelling. Airstrikes supported their forces the entire day. On our side, we will not relent until we capture the town.” (The Rihli Voice, October 5, 2024)

As of now, they have captured several key positions, including three bases at Auto Mountain, strategic bases along the Thantlang-Hakha road, and Lai Villa guest house, a heavily fortified military base inside Thantlang Town. During the operation, 15 members of the Chinland Council forces lost their lives, and over 40 were injured. Furthermore, on October 13, 2024, the Chief of Staff of CDF-Thantlang, Salai Ram Zel, was reported killed in action.
Additionally, on October 9, 2024, without any form of provocation, the junta launched airstrikes in Falam Township and heavy artillery shelling from Infantry Battalion 268, based in Falam Town, caused civilian casualties, including the death of a 57-year-old man working in the fields of Relsing Village and injuries to some children. The military junta’s troops attacked with air strikes in the Falam Township, and the 268 battalion stationed in Falam city also fired artillery, resulting in the death of a 57-year-old man working in the Relsing village area of Falam Township, and some children were injured.
Without any active clashes, the military junta forces from Infantry Battalion 268 in Falam Town randomly fired heavy artillery and the SAC air force carried out airstrikes. As a result, one civilian and several children in Falam Township sustained injuries, and some houses were damaged, according to a spokesperson from the Chin National Organization (CNO).
